About 10 animals have disappeared under what she called “suspicious" circumstances. The disappearances have been concentrated along the Fodderstack Road and in Gid Brown Hollow, where six dogs have been reported missing.
Warden Pullen is working with the animal group to plot the suspicious incidents. And. Mrs. Drake said, VDOT’s county headquarters has agreed to file descriptions of any dead dogs they find along the roads to cross-reference with reports of missing animals. That will help, she explained, to clear some of the reports of missing animals.
For residents concerned about their pets, Mrs. Drake had some suggestions to prevent theft. Foremost, she said, "keep a closer eye on your animals. We live in the country, and we're so used to letting our dogs go and not really keeping a close eye on them." At the least, when the dog is outside in the yard, be aware of where he is all the time.
Better yet, she added, is to put the dog in a caged run or on a chain when he's let outside.
