liam Carrigan, host of the evening program on the lawn of his Avon Hall home, all requested that visitors use the litter barrels which will-be placed throughout the town.
There will also be "portapots" set up on the grounds of Avon Hall, on the monument grounds adjacent to the courthouse, and at other locations around the town.
First aid will be available at several locations from the area's volunteer rescue squads, which will also have ambulances and advanced medical equipment for more serious emergencies.
Sheriff Woodward reminded everyone of the danger of illegal fireworks, which he said seems greater than ever in this area this year. A Frederick County man had his hands nearly blown off last week when an illegal firework exploded as he lit it. The sheriff, along with Mr. Carrigan, Chief Roach and Mayor Morehouse, asked that no private fireworks be brought onto the grounds of Avon Hall.
Lastly, the sheriff warned that public consumption of alcoholic beverages is a misdemeanor under Virginia law. and that his department will be alert for anyone under the influence during the celebration, as wjll as intoxicated drivers on the roads.
