Rappahannock County is now approved to implement the Emergency Feed Program (EFP) and the Emergency Feed Assistance Program (EFAP), according to Linda Henry, County Executive Director of the local ASCS office. Rappahannock has been approved as a contiguous county.
To qualify for emergency feed, Ms. Henry said a livestock owner must have suffered a 40 percent loss of total feed production on the farm because of a natural disaster, which resulted in a need for purchases of feeding quantities larger than normal for eligible livestock. Eligible livestock are cattle, sheep, horses, mules, swine, goats and poultry which have been owned at least six months; or, if owned less than six. months, they are either offspring of eligible livestock or were purchased as a normal operation and not to obtain additional benefits. Only foundation livestock" is eligible for assistance under the Emergency Feed Program.
