Wilder challenged Coleman to speak to the record.
“Talk is cheap. A record is hard to come by,” said Wilder.
On transportation, Wilder said he had yet to hear a Coleman transportation plan or formula.
“Do we want to go back to the 70s in transportation? Developers, builders, jurisdictions and localities could not see passed two or three years down the road,” said Wilder who served on the Governor’s Commission on Transportation in the 21st century. “Now we can plan ahead.”
Coleman has criticized the state Department of Transportation as “a passive agency” and has vowed to establish a Transportation Management Review Commission to review VDOT. He favors regional planning and local initiatives to help resolve the traffic problems of the Northern Virginia region.
Wilder said he advocates the use of pledge bonds and additional tolls to raise revenue for transportation costs.
