RCES dinner cancelled
The seventh grade’s barbecue dinner scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Rappahannock County Elementary School has been postponed. A new date will be announced later.
Basic beekeeping
The Northern Piedmont Beekeeping Association is offering a free “start-up” course in the art of Beekeeping. The program is designed for the new enthusiast and will provide basic information including proper planning, the biology of the honeybee, beekeeping equipment and different methods of obtaining and keeping honeybees. The program will be held at the Culpeper Extension Office, 101 South Main St., in Culpeper, on Saturday, March 3 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Student art needed
From March 9 through April 1 the Middle Street Gallery will present “Emerging Artists: The Five County High School Show.” This exhibit will include paintings, sculpture, and photography by high school students from the counties of Rappahannock, Fauquier, Warren, Madison and Culpeper. The concept of the show is to give serious young artists a professional experience, from entering a juried exhibition, to helping hang the show, and offering their work for sale. The criterion for acceptance is work that strongly expresses heart, soul, imagination and skill. Interested student artists should contact their own high school art teacher. Work is due to teachers or to the Middle Street Gallery by March 1. Jurors are: Cynthia Mahan, a professional photographer, Linda Ramer, a scupltor and landscape designer, and Laurie Marshall, a painter and adjunct faculty member at Lord Fairfax Community College. The opening is on Sunday, March 11, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. when jurors awards will be presented.
