I apologize to the people of Washington — for being a dull person.
So dull that Newbill Miller (and William Wickens, his real estate investment partner and cohort in this affair) had to use tax returns and auto tags to attack my integrity in their efforts to get me off Town Council. Boring!
And, having already asked for opinions about filing State tax returns and voter registration, I am not now going to ask DMV or anyone else whether it is (or, as Mr. Miller says, it “should be”) “illegal” for me to serve on Council without Virginia tags or a county sticker on the car I drive. Neither is required to vote or to hold Town office.
An office holder must be a registered voter. A voter registrant must be a US citizen, a Virginia resident, never convicted of a felony and never adjudicated to be mentally incompetent. To the best of my knowledge, I met those qualifications when I registered in 1985 and I still do.
The fact that I agreed to serve on Council — at the urging of my nextdoor neighbor, Mrs. Newbill Miller — to fill the vacancy created when Dorothy Clater moved from Town in 1987, may, in light of recent events, raise questions about my mental compentency. But, I’ve been told you don’t have to be paranoid to think somebody is out to get you.
