public places may be restricted in Virginia, as it eventually probably will be, there doesn’t seem to be any prospect that people are going to desert smoking habits en masse.
And while tobacco is no longer king in Virginia, the thousands of jobs it creates and millions of dollars in revenue it produces still make it a member of the royal family.
Thus, those who promote its use will not lightly abdicate to the role of commoner without many more rounds of bloody duels that appear on the horizon as the anti-smoking element of the General Assembly grow in numbers.

James Madison University has announced its dean’s list for fall semester 1989. Kristina M. Erickson of Washington was among the JMU students honored.
To qualify for the honor, a student must have a grade point average of between 3.25 and 3.74 (on a 4.0 scale) and carry a course load of at least 14 hours.
