Diana Hudson bested nine other contestants to win the Miss Rappahannock contest, held May 26 at Rappahannock County High School.
Miss Hudson, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hudson of Chester Gay, is a junior at RCHS and a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Students Against Drunk Driving, Drama Club and Varsity Club. She also played for the Panthers’ varsity softball team.
First runner-up in the contest was Karen Payne, a 17-year-old senior at RCHS. Miss Payne, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Payne of Sperryville, is the president of the school’s senior class and vice-president of the National Honor Society. She played on the softball team for three years and has been captain for two.
Second runner-up to Miss Rappahannock was Susan Estes, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Estes of Sperryville. Also a member of the National Honor Society, the RCHS junior will serve as the president of the local chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America and SADD next year. Miss Estes is an active member of the Drama Club, and has played basketball for the Panthers for the past two years.
The Miss Rappahannock contest is an annual event sponsored by the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad. It is one of the squad’s major fundraisers of the year, and according to the organizers, this year’s pageant was the most successful ever.
