Since this is a field meeting, the audience will actually see the destructive insects, beneficial insects, disease organisms and weeds that live in an organic garden. The audience will learn about the use of mulch, natural fertilizers, legumes, organic greenhouse management, row spacing, composting, biological controls, companion planting, floating row covers, beneficial insect release, trap monitoring of insect populations and many other organic gardening methods.
The audience will also learn how they can become certified as organic producers within the VABF Small Market Garden Certification Program at a reasonable cost.
The Organic Market-Garden Field Day will begin at 10 a.m. on June 16th at Randolph Farm. All participants should come dressed for working in the soil. At noon an organic picnic will be served under the shade trees. Everyone who would like to enjoy the picnic lunch must register ahead of time by sending a check for $5.50 by June 10 made payable to Fair Share Grocery.
