year later. Vent became the first Austrian community to establish what became known as a ‘quiet zone’ surrounding the village. Under that plan, Vent has set aside 396 square kilometers where no new roads, houses or passenger lifts may be constructed, where all ‘noise’ is outlawed, and where helicopter skiing (increasingly popular in Europe) is barred.
“Alois Pirpamer, who operates that same Hotel Post that I stayed in 26 years ago, has a simple explanation: ‘Our guests want a village; they don’t want nightclubs. We have a village and we mean to keep it that way’.”
The village of Washington existed for many years without a business of this type and we’d like to keep it that way.
