The Astros kept the game within reach until the fifth, when the Yankee offense erupted for seven runs, sparked by a two-run double by Jeff Atkins.
In the sixth the Yankees iced the contest with six more runs. Their offensive effort was aided by several ill-timed walks and another two-run double by Jeff Atkins.
With the victory, the Yankees record climbed to 5-1, while the Astros dropped to 1-5. At that time, the Orioles remained in sole position of the Bambino League lead with a perfect 6-0 record.
Yankees 21, Blazers 8
On Friday, June 1, the Yankees again tightened the race for the pennant in the Bambino division with an impressive 21-8 win over the Blazers.
' Tim O’Meara pitched four strong innings for the win and also hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and home run.
Teammate Jeff Atkins continued his impressive offensive effort, adding three singles and a home run for the Yankees.
Bryan Parker and Darrell Scott each had three hits for the Blazers, with Scott collecting a tremendous blast to deep left center field.
With the victory, the Yankees record climbed to 6-1 while the Blazers fell to 2-5.
“Baseball fans,” Mr. Dorrell said, “are urged to find out about the fun and excitement of Little League ball by attending the games and supporting their favorite teams.” And to those who have already shown their support, Mr. Dorrell added, “Thanks for helping to make this activity possible for our kids. ”
The RAA is sending three teams to the district tournament, to be held later this month. One team from each of the Minor League, Bambino and Babe Ruth Leagues will attend. Anyone who is willing to assist financially with the tournament sponsorship should contact RAA Finance Chairman Cheryl Digges (937-5157).
All Rappahannock Athletic Association games begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday. Games are played at Stuart Field on U.S. 211 in Amissville, at Rappahannock County Elementary School, and at the Ronnie Pullen Memorial Stadium at Horseshoe Hills on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville. There is no admission charge to the games, and refreshments are available. All proceeds benefit the RAA Little League program.
