Chester Gap Carnival continues
The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department's annual carnival will continue through Saturday, July 28. The carnival will feature live music every night, with Shenandoah on Thursday, Mystic Sound on Friday and Mixed Country on Saturday night. There will also be a horseshoe pitch Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:30 p.m. The carnival will feature plenty of food, rides for the whole family and a grand prize of $1,000, which will be awarded Saturday night. All proceeds will benefit the Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department.
Flint Hill carnival Aug. 1-4
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department's annual carnival will begin next Wednesday, Aug. 1 with a family night of rides for $4. On Thursday, Aug. 2, the popular parade will feature the newlycrowned Miss Virginia, Shannon DePuy of Amherst. The parade will draw fire and rescue units from Northern Virginia and Maryland, plus Shrine units, high school marching bands and many novelty floats. Box suppers will be available before and after the parade. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, anyone can ride all night for $6. Prizes to be awarded Saturday night include Redskins season tickets, a registered Black Angus and a 1990 Ford Escort.
Council to meet at 7:30 p.m.
To better accomodate residents and members, Washington's Town Council will begin its meetings at 7:30 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. Public hearings will be scheduled for 8 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the agenda permits. The new time will be effective with the Wednesday, Aug. 8 meeting.
Fall sports practice
The fall sports season at Rappahannock County High School will begin on Monday, Aug. 13 with tryouts for cross-country, girls basketball, soccer and cheerleading. Practice times will be announced soon. All students must have a current athletic physical before they will be allowed to practice. For more information, call the high school (987-8575).
