Former juvenile intake-probation officer Richard Corvin, 32, of Warrenton, was sentenced to 23 years in prison, 10 of which were suspended, for forcible sodomy and attempted forcible sodomy in Fauquier County Circuit Court.
Judge William Shore Robertson agreed to run the 23-year sentence for sodomy concurrently with a sixyear sentence for the attempt.
In imposing Corvin’s sentence, the defendant’s position of authority over the victim — a juvenile who was placed in his custody — was the factor “most compelling to the court in requiring you to serve this additional time,” Robertson said.
Corvin’s attorney, Roy Bradley, urged the judge to consider placing the defendant on probation and require him to continue receiving counseling.
Of the possible 29-year recommended sentence, Bradley said, “That’s a sentence the jury couldn’t have given if he’d killed the alleged victim.”
“What we’re asking is that you give this man an opportunity to rebuild his life,” Bradley said. “Simply a finding of guilt has a severe crippling effect on all his future activities.”
According to court papers, the juvenile victim was placed in Corvin’s custody on Aug. 25, 1988, after the boy was found in possession of an alcoholic beverage.
