This is probably the most memorable week of my life — I reach the age of 50 on July 29, only half as old as Rose Kennedy who turned 100 last Sunday. I’m very grateful for my health and have pledged anew to do everything within my power to take care of this body. My body may get worn, but I’ll always be young at heart and in attitude. I want to be a better family member and citizen in the community. There’s so much I want to do, but not enough hours in the day. I enjoy even more the beauty of this great land. This week I’ve seen several wild turkeys and the gold finch have been coming onto the porch to feed on sunflowers planted in front of my dining room window. I enjoy my family, especially our seven grandchildren.

Ruritan president Butch Zindel expressed appreciation to Jerry Curtis, chairman of the BBQ committee and all the members who worked so hard on the BBQ on July 7. Despite their efforts, participation was off almost 50 percent over last year. The chairman appointed a committee to assess fundraisers and new membership.
