May brought more discouraging news for builders and auto dealers in state, with both industries registering declines when compared to the same month in 1989, according to the Virginia Business Report from the College of William and Mary.
For the state, building permits dropped 17.1 percent in May. Two migor contributors in the state decline were Northern Virginia and South Hampton Roads, both highly populated areas which were hit with a 2? percent decline, said Roy Pearson, bureau director.
