July 21 and 22. Whereas some areas may have received a real drenching and others others just a trace, Wingfield measured .20 inches on the 21st and .71 inches on the 22nd at the weather station in his backyard in Sperryville.
“The temperatures have been consistantly in the 80’s,” the weather watcher said, adding evening and night temperatures have been below average for this time of year; hovering around the 70 degree mark.
Daytime temperatures have remained moderate, though Dr. Michael’s office predicts above normal temperatures for the rest of the summer weeks. In Rappahannock County, however, Mr. Wingfield reported that only two days this month have registered above the 90 degree mark.
“Most days have been in the 70 and 80 degree range,” Mr. Wingfield said, adding that only on July 10 and 11 was the temperature 90 degrees or higher.
These temperatures are comparable to 1989’s mild wet conditions. In July 1989, Mr. Wingfield recorded only four days when temperatures pushed the mecury to or above the 90 degree mark, while most days recorded similar 70-80 degree temperatures.
