Much attention has been focused on volunteerism during the past few weeks. Several local residents were nominated for the Governor’s Award on Volunteerism. While none received the coveted gold and silver medals, they did receive a certificate recognizing their dedication to the community through volunteerism. The community is very proud of these individuals and deeply appreciates their time and effort in improving the quality of life for area residents. Those recognized included the following:
Louis G. “Butch” Zindel III, Amissville: Mr. Zindel is president of the Amissville Ruritan Club; scoutmaster for Amissville Boy Scouts; board member, Facility for Occupational Rehabilitative Enterprise and chairman of the Personnel Committee, the FORE workshop teaching physically and mentally handicapped persons work skills and personal skills to obtain employment and interact with others.
He is a board member of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, making the public aware of the necessity of conserving our natural resources; chairman of the Theatre Maintenance Committee, Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community. He coaches in the Rappahannock Athletic Association’s Eastern Division Little League; is a member of the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals, and is chairman of the Playground Committee for Wakefield School.
Paul A. Poling, Amissville: Mr. Poling has been a volunteer fire fighter for more than 52 years; he is currently the chief of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Company, which provides both fire protection and rescue services in both Rappahannock and Culpeper counties, cover
