He has been a member of the Governor’s Advisory Board for Emergency Medical Services for six years; he serves on the State Emergency Medical Services Board for 1989-1991; State EMS Board Communications Committee for four years; Legislative Committee, State Firemen’s Association, five years; Legislative Committee, Rappahannock County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, 12 years; Executive Committee RappahannockRapidan Emergency Medical Services Council, 10 years; and served on the Executive Committee of the Virginia State Fire Service Council for 12 years. He is an active Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), fireservice instructor, fire service test supervisor, past president and active member of the RappahannockRapidan EMS Council. He is also active in his church; Mr. Poling has been a Sunday School teacher for 26 years.
Landem Harl Luttrell, Amissville: At the age of 97, Mr. Luttrell has dedicated his entire life to serving the community of Amissville. He has served on the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors for approximately 12 years. He began serving the needs of the Amissville Baptist Church at the age of 16 and continued to do so until 1983.
He and the late Mrs. Luttrell donated land for the parsonage, located on U.S. 211. Mr. Luttrell contributed funds and provided much labor for its construction. A life-term deacon at Amissville Baptist, he also served many years as a trustee.
He is currently the oldest member and member for the longest period of time. He willingly gave of his time to mow the church yard and cemetery for many years; Members said he could be depended upon to do anything that needed to be done at the church. Neighbors remember the Luttrells for their gifts of money, food, and other assistance to so many in need. His dedication is an inspiration to everyone. He resides with his daughter Jamesley and her husband Gilbert Dennis.
