Today, the second generation farm features refinements derived over many years of trial and error. Intensive controlled grazing where 30,000 pounds of liveweight per acre is common has produced fields yielding 400 cow days of perennial polycultures per annum. Forested acres yield chips which serve as the carbon base for deep bedding during hay feeding and large scale spring composting so that manure neither vaporizes nor leaches.
