Vets office has
new '800'
number
The Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Roanoke will get a new toll-free telephone number for Virginia veterans and dependents to call.
Gary L. Cole, Regional Office Acting Director, said that beginning Dec. 8, people living outside the local Roanoke calling area can call the VA Regional Office by dialing, tollfree, (800) 827-2018. Veterans living in the local Roanoke calling area can still reach VA by dialing (703) 9826440.
According to Mr. Cole, there are 661,000 veterans in Virginia. The Roanoke Regional Office handles VA related claims for benefits by veterans and dependents, and their survivors living in the state.
Callers can dial the Roanoke office from anywhere in the state at no charge. They will be connected with a Veterans Benefits Counselor who will be able to answer any questions regarding veterans benefits and services. The toll-free telephone is in service daily, except for federal holidays, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“The new phone number will save the government a considerable amount of money when compared to the present telephone line charges. It will also provide a higher quality of voice transmission,” Mr. Cole said.
