The November meeting of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, was held on Tuesday, the thirteenth, at the Culpeper United Methodist Church in Culpeper. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Thomas Eastham, the new Regent. Mrs. William J. Nenner, Chaplain, gave a loving memorial with prayers for the late Mrs. W. Carlyle Crigler who was serving the Chapter as its Regent until her death on November fourth.
The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. Edward W. Schaefer whose subject was “A Snug Little Home in Richmond.” Mrs. Schaefer had trunks full of memorabilia from the John Y. Mason family. He was an American Minister in Paris among other appointed offices by the United States government but Mrs. Schaefer centered her account on the oldest daughter of the family, Betty, who married Roscoe Heath in 1855 and moved to Richmond. Reading excerpts from letters which Betty wrote to her family was the basis of this account of married life in the fifties and sixties, making life as it was lived at that time come alive - the daily routine, descriptions of home furnishings, loss of children, infants and and new mothers, the gathering problem of slavery, and
