Alex Sharp will serve as the local staff person for the Piedmont Environmental Council, PEC announced last week.
Mr. Sharp has been involved for the past 12 years in the apple business in Rappahannock County, and has owned and operated the cold storage in Sperryville since 1985. He continues to farm and has a great interest in the perservation of farming in Rappahannock County.
He lives with his wife Rose Ann and their three children at Mountain Green, the Sharp’s family farm in Harris Hollow* outside Washington. Mr. Sharp holds a B. A. in economics from the University of Virginia.
In his new position, Mr. Sharp will be responsible for assisting landowners in preserving open space through the donation of open space easements and the creation of agricultural and forestal districts. Mr. Sharp’s work will be funded by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, and he will work closely with this local preservation group.
