The Board of Supervisors agreed to consider having the county’s trash hauled to a landfill in Page County after 1994 and voted to delay taking action on Walter Maben’s application for rezoning for the Amissville Post Office.
At Monday’s monthly meeting County Administrator John McCarthy told the supervisors the Kimmins Recycling Corp. of Florida had applied to Page County for a construction debris landfill to serve the metropolitan D.C. market. Page County indicated it would approve such a project only if the firm handled Page County’s solid waste also.
Kimmins then started to explore the possibility of also handling solid waste from Rappahannock and Warren counties to have a large enough volume of trash to make the recycling effort work. Mr. McCarthy said the firm had talked about rates ranging from $45 to $50 per ton plus a charge for hauling. He said the firm expects to recycle 40 to 50 percent of the trash, enabling the county to exceed the goal of recycling 25 percent by 1995.
