We are concerned that if parents can’t phone their children’s schools a family emergency or other important information may not be able to get through. Replacing the flawed Merlin system has been delayed due to budget constraints as well, said Dr. Gangel. In the meantime, phones at both schools are busy much of the day.
We don’t find fault with the school administration for these funding shortages, although we do suspect better solutions may be feasible (for example, call waiting to open up phone lines, and parents may want to help solve the sports transportation problem). The real answer is money, and this year it hasn’t been in abundance. We’re concerned it may not be long before budget decisions dictate cutbacks in the curriculum as well, and that’s something we all should worry about.
