north side of U.S. 211. He asked Mr. Maben if he would consider down zoning to agricultural rather than requesting general commercial zoning. Post offices are allowed in agricultural zones with a special use permit.
Col. Bingham said, “The existing post office is dangerous to get in and out of. You have to drive down into a hole.” He noted that another site on the south side of U.S. 211 will come before the Planning Commission this month that is almost as far from the center of Amissville in the other direction. He said a third site, also on the north side of U.S. 211 is closest to the center of town, but it only consists of one acre.
“What I think Pm trying to say is if it is in any way possible, I would like to not turn this request down, but hold it in abeyance until we see something about the next choice.” He said he did not favor the property on the east side of Amissville because it would be behind a fiveacre parcel and not visible from the road, but he would favor Mr. Maben’s site if a site closer to the center of Amissville could not be found.
Mr. Maben and Mr. Baumgardner agreed to consider requesting agricultural zoning and to wait until next month for the board’s decision.
In other action the Board of Supervisors:
• Voted to publish a list of delinquent taxpayers.
• Nominated Chairman Hubert Gilkey for a seat on the Virginia Association of Counties Board of Directors.
• Adopted a resolution declaring the county a drought disaster area.
