To the Editor:
An article in the Oct. 3 edition of the News stated that my opponent and I “hold convergent opinions” on abortion rights.
I am personally opposed to abortion, except in the case of rape, Incest, and to save the life of the mother.
However, I do not believe that government involvement in the abortion issue is a practical solution to this problem. The solution to this problem focuses upon the role of the family. Our leaders in government must encourage parents to take responsibility for the acts of their children.
To that end, I believe that we must require parental consent to abortion for girls under 18. A 14year-old child does not yet have the emotional capacity to individually make such a major decision.
My opponent says he is personally against abortion and leaves it at that.
