Fruit on sale

Several groups in the county will be selling fruit until Dec. 2 to help raise money for their respective organizations. Naval oranges ($11.40 box, $5.60 1/2 box), red grapefruit ($9.25 box, $5.50 1/2 box) and juice oranges ($7.50 box and $4.35 1/2 box) are being sold by the RCHS band, the RCHS chorus and the 7th grade students of RCES. Homecoming at RCHS

Homecoming will be held at Rappahannock High on Saturday, Oct. 26. The soccer game against the Blaze, a club team from Warrenton will begin at 2 p.m. The homecoming dance will begin at 8 p.m.

Haunted hay rides

CCLC is sponsoring its third annual haunted hay rides from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Mountain Green Farm near Washington. Costume contests, pinatas, bonfires, refreshments and hay rides through an orchard full of ghosts, gobblins and ghouls will all be featured on this night of Halloween fun for the whole family. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children in advance, $6 and $3 at the gate. All proceeds will benefit the CCLC scholarship fund. Call 675-3237 to reserve tickets.

Halloween party

The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department will have a Halloween party at the fire hall from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 26. Wear your costume and come have fun,” said a spokesperson. There will be games, food and fun for everyone.

Bingo at Amissville

The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department will have special bingo beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4. Bingo will be held on Monday evenings until further notice. There will be a $500 jackpot. Call Sheila at 937-4357 for more information.

Benefit auction

The Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company will be having an auction on Nov. 15. Donated items may be dropped off at the fire house on Saturdays or call 937-3076, 937-6051 or 937-5614 for pickups.

Haunted house at Flint Hill

The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 2nd annual haunted house from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31 at the fire hall. Treats and refreshments will be served. There is no admission charge. Parental discretion is advised for young children.

Volunteer training available

Hospice of the Rapidan will hold volunteer training from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Oct. 14, 15 and 17. The location of the training will be at the Hospice headquarters located at 211 Waters Place in Culpeper. Pre-registration is required. Call 703-825-4840 weekdays before 3 p..m.

Parenting workshop

The Child Care and Learning Center will hold its second parenting workshop at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Center. The topic for the evening will be teaching cooperation skills with Nol Putnam as guest speaker. The meeting is free and open to the public. “Cooperation is the secret to harmonious family life, so come out and learn some new skills,” said a spokesperson.
