He introduced the man who would replace the veteran legislator in the 31st, retired businessman Bob Darby of Woodville. Del.. Guest said Mr. Darby is not “a Johnny-come-lately in being interested in his fellow citizens and in his community.”
Mr. Darby said the two major planks of his campaign would be to fight what he called a tax-and-spend philosophy at the state level and to improve public education.
He said his opponent, Democrat Jerry Wood of Warrenton, took a nonew-taxes pledges three days earlier. “He’s going to be the one man in (Richmond) to cut spending? That’s absurd and people realize that,” said Mr. Darby.
