To the Editor:
We are convinced that all the contenders for the sheriffs job in Rappahannock are sincere, well meaning, upstanding men.
In the 32 blessed years that we have, so far, lived full-time in the county, we have seen and met several fine sheriffs, but none who exem- <■ plified our idea of a good sheriff more so than Mr. Woodward.
If Mr. Woodward is gracious enough to want to continue to serve, we urge you to support him.

Abortion and
the 7th Dist.
To the Editor:
The 7th District of Virginia does not need a congressman who will duck the hard decisions. A lot of our country’s troubles are caused by the fact that we have too many like that now.
George Allen is hoping the voters will promote him from Richmond to Washington, and he now says that the right of a woman to a safe, legal abortion should be decided in Richmond, not in Washington. This would get him off the hook of a tough choice.
Kay Slaughter, on the other hand, will not duck this issue. She has stated publicly her firm belief that neither state nor national government should have authority over one of the most personal and private decisions a woman can make, and she will stand up and fight for what she believes.
Vote for Kay Slaughter on Nov. 5 and elect a fighter, not a ducker.
