The goals are “to protect and enhance the unique character” of the town, “to provide adequate services and facilities to support the needs of the people,” and “to provide adequate funding to support the governing and operation of the town.”
As objectives and policies under the goal of protecting the uniqueness of the town the Comprehensive Plan calls for underground utility lines, requiring landscaping for new construction, discouraging the construction of new commercial buildings and encouraging the use of existing buildings, discouraging businesses, such as fast food establishments that cause litter and noise, providing street lighting that will “emphasize the historic character of the town,” and working with the county to discourage development near the town.
This last recommendation is in opposition to the county’s Comprehensive Plan, which calls for encouraging development around the existing villages.
