ideas after the apparent platform of unannounced independent presidential candidate H. Ross Perot, Vickery is unabashed about who he supports in the race for the White House.
“I am a Bill Clinton supporter and I am committed to him," Vickery'said.
Vickery said his own race against Wolf will be a clean one. Calling Wolf “a good man,” Vickery said the differences between the two will be clear in their approaches to congressional reform, term limits for rep-> resentatives and abortion rights.
Vickery said he is firmly prochoice. He also supports a 12-year term limit for congressmen.
Vickery set his political course for a variety of issues during the hour-long meeting.
• He pleged to support “the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms,” saying that he is for “getting the guns out of the hands of the bad guys.”
• He noted that he is “historically against the death penalty” but he wouldn’t seek to change the law.
• He favors a strong national health care policy and is working with his brother, doctor and author Donald Vickery, on medical care policy options.
• He is against a cut in the capital gains tax — a central policy in the Bush platform. “Until we get over the deficit, we can’t talk about cutting taxes,” Vickery said.
• He vowed to support the agriculture industry in the rural areas of the 10th.
