Mr. Harris summed up his thoughts by saying, “Whatever it is you end up doing, don’t play it safe. Don’t always go down the well-worn path.” Then, to the captive audience he added, “And one more thing - spend as much time as you can listening to the radio.”
The speech was well-received by all attending the ceremony. It was not the traditional commencement address, but it was an address with an important message for all of the students and Mr. Harris, because of his popularity and appeal to the students, was able to get the point across better than a more conventional speech.
Other highlights of the ceremony included the Salutatory Address by Michelle Egan of Warrenton, the Valedictory Address by Justin Harrell of Haymarket, and the Benediction by Michael Irani of Front Royal.
The previous evening, students in the seventh grade were graduated from the lower school into the preparatory school division at Wakefield.

In the Lower School ceremony: Alex Kelly of Castleton won the Citizenship award as well as the Latin and French awards. Van DeBergh of Washington won the Leadership award and the Creating Writing award. Flint Hill resident Mary Beth Williams won the All-Around Girl award and the Athletics award for girls.
