Planners frown
on B&B permit
Private road unsuitable.

The county Planning Commission recommended approval of a special use permit for a one-chair beauty shop in Amissville, but recommended denial of a special use permit for a bed and breakfast in the Tiger Valley area.
Both applications were for business uses on properties served by rights-of-way.
Elsie Gheen had. applied for the special use permit for the beauty shop to be located in her home for her daughter, Cheryl Gheen, who is a licensed hairdresser.
The Gheen home is served by a 30-foot right-ofway through property the Gheens also own with another daughter. The right-of-way leads to Route 611.
The Gheens submitted a petition signed by 18 neighbors supporting the application.
After the planners had unanimously approved the application, Mike Massie, who represents the Board of Supervisors on the Planning Commission said, “If the front property were owned by someone else, I might have voted differently. I can see a situation when I would vote against a business use on a 30-foot right-ofway.”
The next application was for a business use on a 15-foot right-of-way.
Robert and Joan Herrema had applied for a threeroom bed and breakfast in the house they bought from Aubrey Keyser, near Jessamine Hill off Route 626. The property is on a 15-foot right-of-way that passes
