Swan Lake Stakes
The $25,000 Swan Lake Stakes drew a good group of 13 to race over the Meadow’s national hurdles. The nominees are headed by 1992 victor, Laura Thiel’s Timely Encounter.
The Northfields gelding rollicked home in front twice last term, ridden by trainer Janet Elliot’s stable jockey, Jeff Teter. He likes a piece of ground, and Saturday looks to excel once again in the three-mile Swan Lake.
Disqualified winner of the $100,000 American Grand National last October, Michael Murphy’s Circuit Bar preceded that mess by scoring in the $40,000 Metcalf Memorial at Red Bank, N.J.
The son of fashionable jumps sire Mokhieba, Circuit Bar is a chestnut 6-year-old trained by the owner’s wife, Alicia. The gelding won $74,300 last year — and would have broken $130,000 if he had kept his valuable Grand National score.
