Look to the sky after 1 p.m. The members of the Fredericksburg Homing Pigeon Club will release pigeons to race for a $500 prize. Every racing pigeon is banded, and the time and distance travelled will determine which bird has the winning time.
Post time for the first steeplechase race is 1:30 p.m. — the allowance timber race. Riders will be called to the post at 2:10 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. for the allownace hurdle and the apprentice timber race, respectively.
Two-time Virginia Gold winner Von Csadek will make his retirement gallop on the Great Meadow course at 3:05 p.m. The handsome 11-year-old bay gelding, owned by Sheppard-Worrall Stables, won the hearts of race fans during his career.
The Sport of Kings maiden hurdle will begin at 3:31 p.m., followed by the featured $40,000
