Events at the Rappahannock Library have not slowed despite the withering heat. The children’s programs have provided interesting indoor diversions and other events have helped to increase book purchases and increase circulation. The Friends of the Library Book Sale on the Fourth of July a particular success.
The Friends Book Sale, chaired by Bill Sharp, on July 4 was well attended and raised over $1,400. Paperback novels and children’s items were the best sellers. Much of the success was attributed to the horse drawn hay wagons which shuttled people to the sale. Chris Bird and Joe Keyser guided teams of Belgian draft horses from events in Washington to the library building in temperatures well over 90 degrees during sale hours.
