Rappahannock News Staff Writer % It’s a job that’s long on hours and short on pay, and one that not everybody would accept, never mind seek.
There is a sense among some votds, who will do the hiring to fill the position in November, that both Democratic incumbent Jerry Wood and Republican challenger Jay Katzen are a little crazy for wanting the 31st District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. * Voters living in Chester Gap, a slice of Americana near the junction of Warren, Rappahannock, and Fautfuier counties which make up the 31st District, have additional reason to question Katzen’s sanity.
In the middle of an afternoon during the apex of the recent heat wave, when neither mad dogs nor Englishmen were venturing out, Katzen was on foot patrol on the hilly streets of the mountain town. He was traipsing door-to-door in his persistent campaign to meet and greet the voters of the 31st, and to Sway them into what he believes is a growing stronghold of GOP supporters.
