Nobody spoke during the public hearing on the Bank Franchise Tax Ordinance, and the ordinance was adopted unanimously. This ordinance, based on state law, allows communities to levy a tax of 80 percent of the state rate of taxation on the net capital of any bank located within a town. Without such an ordinance the tax money would otherwise go to the state or county. The tax generates about $12,000 for the town. The bank receives a tax credit for the funds against its state tax.
No new changes were proposed in the zoning ordinance. Town attorney Frank Reynolds Jr. said that there w as some confusion about section 6-l-2(h) 4.) which limits the density of dogs “not to exceed four (4) dogs per acre.” Mr. Reynolds said that presently there is no limit on the number of dogs permitted, and that the new regulations mean that there cannot be more than four without a special use permit.
