Mrs. Leathers said since the state was under a waiver and the new Federal Welfare Reform will have little effect here, with perhaps some new rules for aliens. However, since the federal program is going to block grants, that may mean less money coming into the state and less coming from the state to the county.
Mrs. Leathers said the county contribution to the department's budget is 3 percent or about $70,000. There are seven full-time workers in the department and two part time, she said.
Besides the traditional welfare . programs, the department provides child protection services. The department is required to investigate every accusation of child abuse.
