it forked. One fork going north toward Elk Wallow, the other going north-east down into the valley. We followed the northern most route approximately another mile and crossed two spring branches and finally came to one of the upper branches or headwaters of the Thornton River. Here the road seemed to disappear so I suggested that my sister and the kids wait here until I scouted around to see if I could find anything. Using the map I went across the creek and around a hill, eventually finding the road again, and came upon the place where once stood a house, at least the bricks strewn about told me this. There had been many fruit trees near this place, especially pears and apples.
I memorized the area, for the future, ahd decided that I'd been, gone just long enough to make the others get a little too nervous. While I'd been gone, one child had wetted his pants, another found the need to go to the bathroom backwoods style, and another had gotten hung up while climbing
