At long last, local glassblower Eric Kvames's Glassworks Gallery will have its grand opening on Sunday, Dec. 1 from noon to 6 p.m.
Mr. Kvames has been a glassblower for 23 years and has been making the glass at his studio in Sperryville since 1984 when he converted the old Sperryville junkyard into Oldway Art Center. He purchased the junkyard from Piedmont supervisor Charles K. "Pete" Estes. "Pete made it possible for me to buy the property, and end the junkyard. We spent many months cleaning it up together. This made it possible to build an art center on a large piece of industrially zoned land," said Mr. Kvames.
The construction of Glassworks Gallery began in 1988, and today it is a spacious 5,000 square foot twostory gallery. The gallery is now part of Oldway Art Center, which is a cluster of studios housing several local artists: stained glass artist Patti Mullan, metal sculptor Mike Doyle, woodworker Michael Saulnier,
