Just what
will town’s
future be?

Plans for the future of the Town of Washington — they are the topic of much discussion throughout Rappahannock.
Friday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a meeting in the town hall where Washington residents and planning consultant Milton Herd will talk about plans for the town’s future. All ; are invited to this open agenda discussion.
Mr. Herd’s firm has worked as far away as ‘ Madison, Miss., and as close to home as Winchester. Soon, however, they will be facing a new set of problems which range from waste water treatment to the lack of affordable housing in the village.
Raymond Gooch, chairman of the Future Committee, feels that it’s definitely time to address these and other issues.
“If we accept the fact that there will be changes then it appears to be a good idea to plan ahead rather than just wait for something to happen and then react to it,” he said.
Gooch mentioned an article that appeared in the June 27 Fauquier Citizen, Warrenton, about a similar planning, or visioning, exercise taking place in Fauquier County. In that article Charles Hall, chairman of Fauquier County’s Planning Commission said, “Most strategic plans evolve out of a crisis situation. A large employer moves out of town...”
Gooch said, “For us the crisis would not be loss of a major employer although if something happened to The Inn it would be a major set back for the town. But, it’s more likely to be
