The affordability of housing in Washington, also under the general heading, is a definite problem for which there are no current solutions.
Mr. Gooch said, “It’s a problem for school teachers, it’s a problem for people who work in the county, Faith Mountain or The Inn or the county government. Affordable housing could also help senior citizens, those who retire and come to the county and want to live on the mountain top and as they get older realize that it’s not a very smart thing to do because they can’t get off the mountain top in the winter and it’s a long way for the rescue squad to get to them. Maybe they’d like to move to Washington but it’s hard to find anything.”
With the town’s problems established it’s up to residents and the committee to sort out what should or should not be done from here. The next step along that road is the meeting July 25 at 7:30 p.m.

The structure itself is intact said Miss Spieker but the ceiling will probably have to be replaced. Much of the repair will have to do with what the insurance company decides.
The call for the fire came in at 11:31 a.m., it was dispatched at 11:32 a.m. and fire company personnel were on the scene at 11:44 a.m. The companies left at 1:42 p.m. after cleaning up and making sure no hidden fire remained.
Companies 2 and 7 of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department responded along with Co. 1 and Co. 4 from the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Co. 3 of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department.
