Last Friday evening at the
library, the large group who were fortunate enough to have attended, were treated to an expertly-presented program on what is possibly the most significant problem confronting our society today. The many-faceted subject, water: drinking water, waste water, surface water, underground water, run-off water, ..r_ water for and from domesticated and wild animals, from headwater trickles to bays and ocean water, was covered.
Prepared and hosted by Hunt Harris of The Ragged Mountain Resource Center and the Rappahannock Library, and moderated skillfully by John McCarthy, our able county administrator, the program was brilliantly presented by a group of panelists from many angles and areas of specialization, and abetted by equally-skilled members of the audience who represented private, public and non-profit organizations, local, state and national governmental as well as non-governmental interests and responsibilities. Concerns were expressed for farmers, industrialists, environmentalists, for polluters and those who suffer from pollution, in other words, for all of us.
We heard from such diverse areas as the Town of Washington, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Army Corps of Engineers, the private water purication testers, Highland County, Page County, the State, the PEC, etc.
