Summer gatherings, whether at church, the pool or at home often include guests bringing a covered dish from home to add to the buffet table. What wonderful foods our friends and family prepare and it is always a treat to taste other people’s cooking. Tb insure a good time at these summer gatherings remember the precautions needed to keep food safe from harmful micro-organisms that can make you sick.

The first precaution is to keep cold food cold and hot food hot. Refrigerate cold food or keep food hot when it is brought to the gathering. If there is no refrigerate be sure to bring coolers with ice and keep them in the shade to stay colder longer. Place food on the buffet only when you are ready to serve it.
