And Jefferson’ request for unlimited contributions in support of the revolution, should be modified to meet the standards of Common Cause, which would require a re-write of the last line of that document, which as revised would not ask for a pledge of “lives, fortunes and sacred honor” but of lives, sacred honor, and up to one thousand dollars,” as a measure of patriotic commitment.
