Of the $15,545 distributed, $9,645 (or 62.5 percent) went directly to programs here in the county. In addition, some of the contributions made to traditional Lions programs are available to county residents, such Screening Van, Eye Bank, and others.
A number of special programs and guest speakers were presented during 1996-97: Talk on Diabetes and Its Complications, Dr. Joel R. Poole; Talk on Prostate Cancer, Dr. Niemmi Datta; Talk on Hong Kong, Lion’s Norman Getsinger; Year’s Experiences and Relationships, Rappahannock County High School Foreign Exchange Students; Law Enforcement, Major Rick MacWelch, Chief Deputy, Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office.
“I believe we have had a very good year," said Mr. Warner. “We have accomplished a lot. We, on the other hand, have a lot more to do.”
