Coalition and their traffic calming plans for Middleburg, Aldie, and Upperville have gained nationwide attention, including writeups in the New York Times and the Washington Post.
Calls have come in for copies of their report and further information from citizens, planners, consultants, engineers, and transportation officials in over 30 states. The Coalition has also had very positive meetings with high level officials of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Admininstration.
Senator John Warner views the Route 50 project as a national model and an opportunity for Virginia to be a leader in an innovative transportation approach. He is contemplating obtaining funding for the project.
Kathleen Maier of RLEP introduced Ms. Van Wagoner to the group of about 20 people in the Fire Hall, and reiterated again that traffic calming is a grass roots effort. RLEP will support the effort, but the initiative and plans must come from the residents, she said.
