On the other side, where they have the vacant lot, one of the drain fields is located. So that meant they couldn’t build on the whole lot with the set backs they had to have to reserve a space for their drain field,” he said.
He added, “We also have residents here who are in serious situations because if their drain fields fail they have no place to put another one on their lot.”
Even the county government offices may at some point be encumbered by the space the current sewage system gobbles up.
On the other hand, there is the possibility of unwanted development should a treatment facility be put in.
.The waste water committee has done a needs assessment study and is currently considering an Engineer study. This study would explore possibilities such as green houses and natural wet lands from the engineers point of view.
Parking
The second of the three topics is the possibility of a parking problem in Washington. Two studies have been conducted, both of which show there is no real problem. Another survey is planned.
Should this survey, or one in the distant future show the need for a village parking lot it it will be then be determined what must be done.
General
The third topic is a very general category. Things such as tourism, the affordability of village housing and the possibility of town expansion as well as Washington’s demographic, or ethnic, economic and age mix, fall under this heading.
The meals and lodging tax, which comes from tourism, makes up 80 percent of Washington’s budget. This year $4,000 was put in the budget for a visitors center.
