A sculpture class taught by Charles Flinkinger this summer at the Old Way Art Center in Sperryville has netted exceptional results.
This is a chance for local people to learn the techniques of sculpting with a live model. Be that as it may, the class has drawn people from as far as Fairfax.
The course consists of nine three hour poses. Each sculpture is worked on for three sessions. The students were offered the opportunity to make casts of their clay sculptures, a messy and time-consuming process.
Mold making is a craft that if attempted without instruction can waste materials and can be a health hazard. Other extras include armature and custom tool making.
Sheri Woodward, one of the 14 students in the class, thinks the county is fortunate to have a class of this quality here.
Cartoonist Jeff MacNelly finds it a great change of pace to work with clay. Peter White of Sperryville says “Flick” is one of the best teachers he has ever had.
Barbara Perris and Janet Martini agree it is well worth the trip from Fairfax.
